"Passerby" Miaoyu became the most desirable woman in "A Dream of Red Mansions"
"Dream of Red Mansions" has a variety of methods to portray characters. One of the most distinctive methods is to make the characters vivid through the language description of the characters themselves. A rough estimate is that "Dream of Red Mansions" portrays thousands of characters, large and small, of which there are seven Bai Duowei is a person with a name and a surname. In Cao Xueqin's pen, each character has its own personality.
Miaoyu is one of them.
Among the many women in Daguanyuan, Miaoyu can be regarded as a special character. We all know that she is not a relative of Jia's family, nor is she a married couple of Jia's family, nor is she a servant of Jia's family. Unlike the girls, nuns and Taoist girls who Jia's family bought from Gusu to learn opera, Miaoyu is Jia The mansion hired as the host of "Zhicui'an", she was a nun from the "home of reading officials".
Miaoyu is just like the name, and she is one of the few appearances and stars. In the first 80 chapters of "A Dream of Red Mansions", Miaoyu is not the main character depicted in the author's heavy and colorful depictions, but the author tells us that there are only five places in total:
tenth Seventh return to courtesy; the forty-first time to taste tea at Zhicui'an; the fiftyth time to beg for plum blossoms by Jia Baoyu; the sixty-third time to celebrate Jia Baoyu’s birthday; (In the seventeenth, fifty, and sixty-third chapters, I only heard the sound but did not see him.) Despite this, we cannot say that this character is dispensable, because Cao Xueqin is portraying it. When the statues of the sentient beings in the red mansion are shaped, each character is shaped with heart. It can be said that Miaoyu has an important position and typical significance in "Dream of Red Mansions". It is evidence that Cao Xueqin listed her as one of the "Twelve Hairpins in Jinling".
